What’s on in 2020 - 2021 to be confirmed post Covid

Throughout the year, there are a lot of great activities organised in East Devon, on the Jurassic Coast and in Exeter. There are a selection of them listed below - in calendar order - all are within 45 minutes driving time from us.

March

Sausage and Cider Fest – The world’s biggest sausage party comes to Exeter this March! Kinda does what it says on the tin… an event that celebrates the different tastes of sausage from around the world and also the different flavours of ciders that are around. 14th March

Guided Bird Watching Cruises – these cruises are ideal for anyone who would like to see the many thousands of birds that migrate to the area during the Autumn and Winter months. 7th – 8th March

The Adoption Donkey Top Trumps Trail - Play the Top Trumps Trail at The Donkey Sanctuary in Sidmouth, Devon and find out which adoption donkey comes out on top in this head-to-head game to win a prize. And also, enjoy the donkeys, because they’re awesome. 3rd Feb – 26th March

Spring Steam Gala at The South Devon Railway - Over the weekend of 14th and 15th March, the four GWR engines will perform on an intensive timetable as part of the Spring Steam Gala. This fantastic time table will give plenty of opportunities to take pleasure in the sight and sounds of these lovely locomotives together again. 14th – 15th March

April

Picking Up the Pieces - Over 20 mosaic artists from the South West will exhibit together for the first time at the Kitchen Gallery, Cockington Court in Torquay. Artists from across the whole of the South West Region, have all made stunning and remarkable work for this exhibition. 29th Feb – 26th April

Easter Fun - Bring your kids to meet the kids at World of Country Life Exmouth this Easter! There are so many cute adorable new kid goats and lambs at World of Country Life in Exmouth this Easter and they are all waiting to meet you - there really is no better place to get up close to the animals. 30th March – 13th April

Find The Easter Chicks - Children receive a village map on entry to Clovelly. This is to mark the location of a number of Easter chicks perched up and down the cobbled High Street to the quay. If they spot at least 10 chicks they can return the map to the Visitor Centre reception to win an Easter egg! 30th March – 13th April

Jurassic Adventure - Come face to face with Rex, Europe's friendliest T-Rex for its first ever appearance in Devon. Step forward and interact with Richie the Raptor and don't miss the adorable baby dinosaurs. 7th – 8th April

May

English  Riviera Bike Festival - hundreds of motorcycle enthusiasts and spectators of all ages from across the country come along to this exciting new event whether it be for the weekend or for a day. As well as the bikes, enjoy loads of live music, great food and an all round entertaining weekend. 2nd – 3rd May.

Brixham Pirate Festival - A swashbuckling mix of piratical fun and entertainment! There will be LOTS of pirates, military and period re-enactors here with guns and cannons to make plenty of noise!  There is also plenty of music from shanties and pirate rock. 2nd – 3rd May.

Exeter Festival of South West Food and Drink - A firm fixture on the food festival calendar, the event is held in the scenic grounds of Exeter Castle Courtyard and Northernhay Gardens. From celebrity chefs and producers to workshops and live music, expect a long weekend of foodie indulgence and food-themed activities for the whole family. 8th – 10th May.

Lynton and Barnstaple Railway Spring Steam Up - All of the resident locos in steam - plus special trains, real ales, marquee attractions and much much more. 9th – 10th May.

June

Children’s Art Weekend – the coastal town of Beer is holding a variety of events for all ages including paint your own Father's Day Card, Food art, Colour wheels and much more. Adult participation is welcome with all the children. Come along and join in the Fun! 6th – 7th June

Torbay Airshow - Events are centred around Paignton Green, with free entertainment for all the family, including exhibition stands, bars, food stalls, display teams, inflatable slides, bouncy castles and fairground rides. 6th – 7th June

Summer Steam Spectacular - Providing an intensive train service on the Railway in addition to the normal passenger service. There will be extra and unusual trains, demonstration "goods" trains plus a shuttle to Wildway. 13th – 14th June

Axe Vale Show – This is a weekend long event run on the Showground just outside Axminster. Marquees and stalls full of foods, drinks, crafts , plants and flowers and much much more. Dog Show both days. 20th – 21st June

July

Exeter Craft Festival - This 3 day Festival of Arts and Crafts is a celebration of the very best artists and makers based in the South West is one of the major highlights of the Exeter's cultural calendar. It takes place in the historic setting of Exeter’s Cathedral Green. 2nd – 4th July

Coastal Clean-Ups - Join the Coastal Crew and help keep Torbay's beaches clean!
In 2020, Living Coasts will once again be running a series of beach cleans around the bay. These FREE events will give you the chance to help the environment and to learn more about local species and the beautiful shores around us. 4th July – 19th September

Newton Abbot Carnival Week - The weeklong carnival includes a number of events from a Quiz Night, Childrens' games evening, Duck Race, Tractor Pull and a Fun Run so there’s something to appeal to everyone. The Carnival procession will leave Courtenay Park on Saturday 11th July where host of event and charity/trade stalls, live music, demonstrations, fairground rides plus much more will be taking place throughout the day. 6th – 12th July

Tunes on the Sands - Just five miles from Dartmouth, with a back drop of scenic forests and hills, the curators of Tunes in the Dunes are holding a special festival on one of Devon's most loved beaches this summer. Keep an eye on the website for the line up. 10th – 12th July

Budleigh Music Festival - Budleigh Music Festival presents a feast of classical Music on the Jurassic Coast. See festival website for more information about all the programmes and booking arrangements. 10th – 18th July

August

Sidmouth Folk Festival – This is a unique week-long seaside celebration of music, dance and song taking place in the charming East Devon regency coastal resort – a must in every festival goer’s annual diary. 31st July – 7th August

Salcombe Regatta - In August, the Salcombe Town Regatta will be regaling visitors and local residents alike with a typically packed programme of fun and festivities. From sandcastle competitions to the harbour swim, it's all an opportunity for salty seaside fun. 1st – 8th August

Teignmouth Regatta - A week of fun for all the family and an annual event since 1773. This event celebrates Teignmouth's love of the sea and river with all things watersports included. For those who like to stay on dry land there is plenty going on throughout the town for kids of all ages - crabbing, quiz nights, fun runs,treasure hunts and more. 2nd – 9th August.

Paignton Regatta Community Fun Week - As well as stage entertainment, there will be demonstrations and displays for all the family; plus a fully-licensed bar, hot and cold food and a number of stalls selling crafts or raising money and awareness for local and national causes. Anderton & Rowlands funfair will be joining and bringing all the fun of the fair to Paignton Green. 8th – 16th August

Dawlish Carnival Week - It may not be Rio, but Devon certainly know how to have fun at a carnival. Charmingly located on the South Devon coast, the pretty seaside resort of Dawlish is a family favourite that bursts into life every year with its week long Carnival. 15th – 21st August.

September

Heritage Open Days – this event celebrates England’s architecture and culture by making properties that usually aren’t open to the public, or charge admission fees, free to access. It is a once a year chance to discover hidden treasures and enjoy a wide range of tours, events and activities which bring local history and culture to life. 11th – 20th September.

Autumn Fair - Enjoy local craft stalls, live music, face painting, town centre games, balloon modelling and much more at Newton Abbot Autumn Fayre, held in Newton Abbot Town Centre. 12th September

Devon Open Studios - A cornucopia of art will be on offer across Devon when resident artists and artisans open their studios to sell their individual artworks to the public this September.  This FREE event features work by over 200 artists in venues  across the county of Devon. 12th – 27th September.

Mayflower Week - A public ceremony, field gun competition, rehabilitation triathlon and Mayflower Muster, all in celebration of the historic Mayflower. 14th – 20th September.

October

Powderham Castle Food Festival - Now in its 9th year, the festival will be hosted in the grounds of the beautiful Powderham Castle and promises to provide a fantastic family, foodie and fun day out for all to enjoy. 3rd – 4th October.

Diesel Gala at South Devon Railway - there is a fleet of first generation British Railways diesels from the sixties. This weekend is a chance for them to be put through their paces. The bar at Staverton will be open too. 9th – 11th October.

Teignmouth Jazz Festival - Various local and national artists featuring Traditional, Latin, Blues, Funk, Modern, Cool, Swing, Be-bop, Contemporary and New Orleans jazz. Held in venues around the picturesque town. Workshops also available. 16th – 18th October.

Dartmouth Food Festival - The Dartmouth Food Festival is back for 2020 with a tempting mix of delicious regional food and drink, chef demonstrations, workshops, lively food debates and fun for all the family. 23rd – 25th October.

November

Ottery St Mary Tar Barrels - Every year, for reasons lost in antiquity, the Flaming Tar Barrels are carried through the streets of Ottery St Mary to the delight of thousands of townsfolk and visitors. The streets and alleys around the pubs are packed with people, all eager to feel the lick of the barrels flame. Seventeen Barrels all in all are lit over the course of the evening. 5th November

Candlelit Dartmouth Mayflower – this event offers a wide array of fabulous Christmas gift ideas. Musicians and entertainers will add to the seasonal atmosphere both in the Gardens and around town. 27th – 28th November.

Shakespeare’s Macbeth Underground - Delve underground into Shakespeare's sinister tragedy of Macbeth as it unfolds around you in a world of stalagmites and stalactites through limestone passageways. The Festival Players Theatre Company returns with Macbeth. 9th – 14th November.

December

Christmas at Cockington Court - Relax in the gardens, follow the murder mystery trail and ride in a horse-drawn carriage back to the picture-postcard Cockington Village. Keep up with their Facebook page for more information relating to their festive events. 1st December – 1st January 2021.

Carols in the Caves - Join in for a unique, sell out event, of carols by candlelight in the underground world of Kents Cavern. Featuring once again with the fantastic 'Yours In Harmony' and the 'KC Carolers' to hear Christmas carols and showcase songs underground. This unique festival experience lasts two hours. 1st – 24th December.

Christmas at the Model Village - Visit this famous Torquay attraction to take time out from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and feel on top of the world as you see it recreated in miniature. Thousands of miniature buildings, people and vehicles, along with animated scenes and touches of English humour, capture the essence of England's past, present and future. 12th – 24th December.

Boxing Day Barbeque - Enjoy a lunch barbecue and hog roast on the quay with FREE entrance into the village all day and live music. It should make the perfect follow-up to your Christmas Day! 26th December.
